Those of you who know me, know that I work for a well-respected company that is heavily rooted in computerish things. If you don’t know me, I unfortunately do not blog my company name… but rest assured that if you heard it you would go “My stars, that is a reputable company” - that is the only option I can really think of you saying.
Anyway, the fact that I work for a technology company makes this story all the funnier.
Someone sent out an e-mail updating the entire north american division of my practice about a software update (This is a loooooooot of people). This person is (actually) named Jesus…
So this gets sent out to everyone in North America, and someone who knows ‘Jesus’ wrote back from their blackberry asking for specific help with the application… but they clicked ‘reply all’ instead of ‘reply’ and everyone in north america received the e-mail… which in itself was a laugh… unfortunately things then got absurd.
About 30 minutes later someone else responded to the e-mail with a similiar technological problem.
Then someone wrote back with a sentence I would soon become all too familiar with “Please take me off this distribution list” or for future references PTMOTDL e-mails . After this message was sent, about three more PTMOTDL e-mails popped up… followed shortly after by an e-mail explaining that we should stop replying to all and take up the issues with people directly…. which was followed by a slew of PTMOTDL e-mails… this is when it started getting really funny.
E-mails were flooding my inbox with themes from “This is not a distribution list, people just stop clicking reply all”, to advocates of what was occuring “I am finding this very useful, please continue sending out e-mails” <— in a non-sarcastic way… if it was sarcasm that would be classic. Then there were an absolutely absurd amount of PTMOTDL e-mails…
The string ended the day with someone sending out an e-mail that was an obituary for “Common Sense” to everyone in North America… and someone who sent a smiley faced emoticon saying “Stop the insanity”.
I can’t believe that in such a well respected technology company, some people can be so technologically handicapped.
I am so looking forward to tomorrow… and I continue to plot what my ‘reply all’ is going to be….
Any suggestions? Hit me up on f-book.
